The Turtle March

I have never experienced anything as moving and beautiful as the turtle release organized by OAP in Mazatlán. It truly brought tears to my eyes! It’s one of those moments that etches itself quietly into your heart — the kind you don’t see coming, but that stays with you long after the sun has set.

Standing barefoot in the cool evening sand, I watched as school children carefully lifted a Styrofoam container filled with the tiniest creatures I’ve ever seen. Dozens of baby turtles — no bigger than the palm of a hand — wriggled and stretched, instinctively ready for their journey. And then, all at once, they began their brave little march toward the ocean.

The beach fell silent except for the rhythmic sound of the waves. People knelt down, children gasped, phones were in motion. We were all caught in the same moment of awe, united by something pure and ancient — the timeless cycle of life continuing right before our eyes.

As each turtle disappeared into the surf, my heart swelled with a mix of hope and humility. There was something profoundly grounding about it — to witness nature’s quiet persistence, to realize that even the smallest life knows exactly where it’s meant to go.

It felt less like an event and more like a blessing — a reminder that beauty often arrives softly, asking only that we pause, pay attention, and let ourselves feel deeply. Watching those tiny turtles make their way to the great, wide ocean was a gift — one I will carry with me always.
