I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve finally nailed down the essence of my blog! It’s become the perfect space for chronicling my retirement adventures – the highs, the lows, and everything in between. Let me tell you, it’s been an absolute pinch-me moment! But really, pinch me – there’s just no way to fully prepare for the incredible journey of retirement until you’re living it.
Lately, I’ve been contributing to MazatlanLife, a fantastic publication curated by Sheila Madsen that covers all there is to see and do in Mazatlan. Specifically, I’ve been writing a column called Shop Talk, where I’ve had the pleasure of delving into the stories of local shop owners and their entrepreneurial journeys. It’s been a blast connecting with these business owners, especially since many of them are Mexican and speak English, which makes things a lot smoother for me as I navigate my way around town and meet new people.
In addition to my writing, I’ve also taken on a volunteering role with Mazatlan Film & Theater, where I help sell tickets for various events. It’s a fantastic opportunity to mingle and network, although I’ve noticed that many of the patrons and volunteers are seasonal visitors, mostly Canadians who spend their winters here. It’s quite amusing how the town experiences a sort of hibernation during the summer months due to this mass exodus of people. We’ve even been brainstorming ways to keep businesses open year-round for us full-time residents.
One of the joys of retirement is having the freedom to choose how to spend my time, and let me tell you, there’s no shortage of activities here in Mazatlan! I love keeping myself busy and exploring new opportunities. Every day is a fresh adventure, and I start each morning with a refreshing 6-mile walk along the beach. It’s truly a slice of paradise!
If you’re curious to see what I’ve been up to, be sure to check out my blog. I’m excited to share my journey with you all. And mark your calendars for the upcoming eclipse on April 8 – I can’t wait to experience total darkness for those thrilling 4 minutes!
Until next time, as I continue honing my Spanish skills, I encourage you to embrace your own amazing life journey. Who knows, maybe someday we’ll cross paths here in Mazatlan – that is, if you’re not already living your best life!
Hasta luego!
